Nov. 13, 2013

Starter: Use the image before you to create a character. Who are they, how did they grow up, what are their favorite hobbies, what is the scariest thing that has ever happened to them, what was their favorite pet’s name, what was their favorite subject in school, what are their siblings names, what are their dreams, ambitions?

AHS Mission and Vision

Example Play: Read and annotate them both. Annotate what you liked, and what you could incorporate.
Answer the following questions for both:
1.       How did they create a back story for their play?
2.       Who is the chorus? How did they incorporate that into a play in modern times?
3.       Did they invoke either pity or fear? Did they achieve catharsis?
4.       What was the moral dilemma you were faced with?
5.       What did you notice about the form of the play? You will need to replicate this form.
       Is the play tragic?
       Example plays:
·         Abby and Brittney: great story line, but is it tragic?
·         Immigrant Story

Two key arguments on your social issue:
First go to the social issue website.
Task: You will read two articles for each perspective of your social issue. Your goal is to understand both sides, and to choose the side your play will take. You will communicate this by writing a thesis on the perspective your play will take on your given social issue.
Once you have this you need to come write it on the board.
Handout: Use the handout to guide your evidence gathering and thesis development.
