TCAP Week 3/10-3/13

On Tuesday I will meet with my 2nd and 3rd hour students, and on Thursday I will meet with my 5th and 6th hour students. Use the following lesson plan for that day.

The Docket:
Section 1: 1a, 1b, 1c, and 1d
Section 2: 2a, 2b, 2c, and 2d

Docket Coaching:
Docket Coaching – In groups – let the students choose 2 other countries they are close in perspective to.   Groups no larger than 3.
Group Annotations
  • Circle the most powerful perambulatory phrase
  • Put a + by all operative phrases you agree with
  • Put a – by all operative phrases you disagree with
  • Put a 0 by any operative phrases you are mixed on
  • In one sentence, summarize the basic idea of the operative phrases at the top of each resolution
  • Write one possible amendment at the end of the resolution
Ranking and Discussion
  • Rank the resolutions from most to least favorite.
  • Code the resolutions
    • Support - If you could support a resolution, write support on it.
    • Live with - If you could live with a resolution, write live with on it.
    • Amend - If you could live with it after you amend it, write amend
    • Dislike - If there is no way you will ever agree to this resolution, even with amendments, write dislike 

Once you finish docket coaching start writing your speech:
1.       Address the resolution “Please turn your attention to…(1a)”
2.       Background on the issue, why we have to act
3.       What the resolution is saying
a.       Why this one is best choice
b.      Why it will work
2.       Conclude the speech

3.       2-3 minutes long

You will have 1 hour to work on your speeches on Friday as well.
