1.       Writing workshop critiques: Groups of 3

            Author: 1. Write a focus question and your name on both critique forms

                2.  Read the essay out loud

Critics: 1. While the author reads the paper annotate feedback and ideas onto the paper

                2. Read the paper again, silently, while you fill out the critique form

Refine your essay!! Add to your analysis! Why does this topic matter? Should we study it?

Your essay will be DUE tomorrow at break! (Printed)

If you have time start looking through your evidence gathering, look for specific evidence to bring up during the seminar.

1)      Go to the TED Talks main page

2)      Mandatory video: The New Era of Positive Psychology

3)      Choose one TED talk based on the direction your paper is taking: TED Talk list

Paper Work:

1)      Write your intro paragraph (use your outline as a guide)

2)      Write your thesis

Example Thesis: In order to achieve happiness today we must seek out ways to grow intellectually and emotionally, create deep meaningful relationships and find purpose in life based on our individual passions, while ensuring that the world at large is brought up to a uniform human standard.

Find someone to critique your thesis!

3)      Refine any existing paragraphs

Challenge Extension:

                Read “The Catastrophe of Success” by Tennessee Williams

Homework:

                Have paragraph 1-5 drafted, with a refined, critiqued thesis.

Project Introduction –

Writing the paper – you will have time during the next two weeks to draft parts of your paper. You will use the Evidence Gathering and sources to generate your ideas. You may use Brave New World as well.

Essay outline – this will serve as your seminar pre-write

This will be your first piece of evidence. Take effective notes. Write down quotes and key ideas in your Evidence gathering handout.

What makes us happy brainstorm
